I now have both dragons, the dark and spooky themes, and the final prize on the help menu list. The castle on the island is fully lit up. However there's a new progress bar showing since I won the final listed prize - which was the spooky theme.
So what's this next collection of candies saving for. Have I already won Whitby's castle, or not?
It's all a bit of a mess I think, with the event finished for many people, but for others we are still saving candies, but I'm not sure for what?!

There were a total of 12 spooky themes up for grabs. When you got one, further turned in candies started going to the next. Like most people, I was happy for one which I managed without spending real money. I am about 3/4 of the way to the next, but lost about 500 candies in the 'hiccup" which means I have no chance of getting a second. Still some have done it.
BFS have promised to sort out the mess caused by the bug, but it remains to be seen what they do. At least they have acknowledged the problem. Lots of software companies don't.

The problem with the glitch is that it happened on the last day of the event, and unless they had some staff up all night, I am not sure how they can get everyone back their candy in time for the event ending in a little less than 5 hours.
Even if they were able to there is no guarantee someone will be able to log-in and collect it prior to the event ending.
For now it is just waiting and seeing, but they still are letting players know they can email them with how much candy they think they lost and their Game Center or Facebook ID.
I needed like 26 more candies and bought 30 candies and the money came out of my account but i didn't get my candy to get my spooky island. Did anyone else have this problem? I play several times a day and for some reason i fell short. I swore i wouldn't pay anymore money but really wanted a spooky island. I cant even find how to contact customer service

Hi Nancy.
This sounds like exactly the kind of thing that the Support Team at BFS can help you with. If you explain when the purchase was made, but that you never received your candy, I'm sure they can help you.
Open up DragonVale on your device. Tap the Options button. In the bottom right corner of the Options dialog is a small green button called Email Support.
Be aware that BFS is likely receiving tons of requests. But be patient. In my 3 years on this forum and playing this game, I have yet to hear one person say that BFS failed to support them.

oops. With the extra day I accidentally collected too much and got the Spooky Theme. Luckily in my main park. I was more careful in my baby park because I really want the food there.

Ha! I thought the spooky themes would be 12 'different' ones. My bad. Even though I wasn't affected by the glitch, I received compensation from Backflip. Generous of them.
At event end I got the notice again that my park was affected by the glitch, even though I didn't lose any candies.
I got awarded the next spooky theme I had not earned, 100 gems, and I think 2-3 million treats in each of my 2 parks. Plus the candy cauldron. Haven't calculated yet how many treats/candy before they upped my rewards.
A pop up informed me that I was affected by the event ending bug. I got treats for my leftover candy. Because I was affected, they gave me the next prize I was working towards, which in my case was a second spooky theme, even though I could not have gotten it even with a missed day of candy collecting. And they gave me 100 gems.
All I was expecting was treats in return for my unused candy. Another case of support going above and beyond. Though I still think the better strategy would be to deliver higher-quality code.
I would say that BFS was extremely generous. I am more than pleased with my rewards. I only had 611 candies that went missing, and I received the same gifts as ceme, except I received 3.5 million something treats.

Same, I lost 100 candy in the glitch and had another ~120, but got the next spooky theme, 100 gems and 3.5 million treats. The ending may leave a bad taste in the mouths of some, but a spoonful of sugar, right?

I guess because my event ended yesterday, I received no message or the additional gifts. I did get it on my small account where the event didn't end until today.
It appears BFS opened another can of worms. I got special gifts from BFS at Park 1 and 3. They are very generous. Both parks received 100 gems, 3,595,895 treats, the second spooky theme, and Candy Cauldron. However, I did not get anything at Park 2. That is probably because I received the treats and Cauldron yesterday. I kept playing yesterday afternoon and this morning and collected more than 300 new candies at Park 2. If I knew I would not get anything for the new candies, I could have stopped playing the event and relax.
Even though I wasn't affected by the glitch, I received compensation from Backflip. Generous of them.
I also recieved the full compensation package from BFS, 100 gems, a second spooky theme, and almost 3.6 million treats. This despite not being affected by the glitch as both machines were turned off at the time and I was able to carry on collecting. I did not lose any candies as I had turned them in before switching off. Reading other peoples' posts, I think that if I had left the candies in the collecting box, I would have lost them.
However, I did recieve the same amounts of treats in each park, despite not collecting the same amount of candies. I had over a quarter in one park, and less than a quarter in the other, probably a difference of about 200 candies.
But, as I have benefitted, I won't be complaining! The extra gems will be put towards the extra expensive habitats.
Kindle park1: nearly all dragons are frolicking in their habitats! (A Thorny little problem to resolve...)
