I'm only at 365 toward the dark theme (my least favorite and the one I most DON'T want to have). I somehow only got 2nd place in the Colosseum today, and I am only missing 2 candies each from collecting treats and DC. However, since I don't care much whether I get any spooky themes, I am not spending gems except when I feel like it. I do want to upgrade my storage tower and may purchase an extra habitat during the event, but I will save all those big purchases for Double days so that I get the most out of the purchases. I am glad that I am not feeling super pressured this time around. I agree that it would be fun to choose to do the prizes in your own order, but I know it will never happen. BFS would lose too much revenue from the people willing to spend real money to get that last "great" prize.
I love my vine dragon avatar created by ElektronX. Now, if only BFS would add it to the game...

These posts are in the wrong thread. For the 3rd prize, I am currently at 462, and have nearly exhausted all means of collecting candy except for farming and DC sweeping; it is all down hill from here. I will consider myself lucky if I hit 482 when my timer resets tonight.
Fixed it
I'm in the same boat. Got the egg and am just trundling towards the Dark Theme.
My cadies don't seem to following the normal pattern. But I don't track them closely so cannot be sure.

I'm off to Chile & Easter Island soon for the next 3 weeks and I just couldn't face not getting the Spooky theme so I bought a lot of candy... today I got my spooky theme and I can now concentrate on packing You are welcome to visit my Spooky Seasonal Island if you happen to be in my neighbourhood... To my gem friends I will try and keep up with gem gifts but will not always have access to WiFi every day. Hope you all have a fun hallowe'en

Remember, you can just buy some Plant dragons to incubate and sell without having to mess with your plans for other eggs incubating.
Good thing to remember, as long as there's a hatchery tower open. How much candy do you get for selling a plant egg? You get 20 for an obsidian, and 40 for the prettier "specials" like prism and eclipse...
I bred some poison/flower dragons to have something quick to hatch for candies instead of hatching the egg I want for display and only got TWO candies for them. At that rate it will take far too long to breed and hatch 40 candies' worth!
An hour to reset, and I'm just missing 2 candies from DC/gem collecting. That's going to irritate me to no end!
I know that feeling well. Happened to me many times last event. The completionist in me was screaming.
Soul-crushing, really?
The truth is I don't play video games, or on-line games that much..etc. Since we have so many completionists on here. I had to look up the word completionist in Webster. It did not exist! And, again in Oxford dict, and nothing. Well, I don't even believe in the word, completionist Anyhow, I googled "completionist", and saw it under Urban Dict.
So what does it sound like when it screamed? Just wonder, I have never had the experience.

Like a banshee as it's "bones are being crushed" with a higher pitch....yes I read at times way too much fantasy!

Well there are only certain games I am a completionist for. For example on the game Flow Free, I will not move on to the next level unless I have achieved a perfect on the previous. No exceptions.
What did it sound like? Perhaps not a scream but instead the sound of me bashing my head against a desk over and over.

Just make sure your phone's not on that desk when you do that. One smash and you'll be shrieking.

I'm trying to earn 40 candies from farming using dragon snaps but it looks like I get to about 14 candies then it stops - also I don't seem to get 40 candies for collecting dragon cash - but if I log back in a little while later I get candie again from some habitats that I collected and received from earlier - but not enough I don't think to get to 40 candies - it's very difficult to keep track on how many candies are received from what.
Nineteen dragons away from a full set - it's work in progress still !!

It's probably helpful to keep some sort of records if you want to track your daily candy collection. I just use a notepad on my phone, but others use some sort of tally app I think (someone made a recommendation for such an app during the Easter Egg or Firefly event).
What I do is to stick to one task at a time, take note of how many new candies I get from doing that task, and record that down. It really helps me keep track of where I'm missing candies from, so I don't have to guess whether I should be growing more Dragon Snaps or not.
For the past few days, I haven't really grown a lot of Dragon Snaps, but have still managed to collect 40 candies from treats. Sometimes I use Zazzberries and check in every half hour or so, or sometimes I use Blushrooms, and occasionally I grow some Sarjin Pepper or even Omega Squash (these seemed especially good in giving me candies). I don't know if it's true, but it does seem like variety in the treats you grow may help your chances in receiving candies.

To keep track of my harvestings i use something which seems nowadays gone under "antiques" , namely a sheet of paper lol. Start count, aim of the day count, then a row each for treats, DC, friends, eggs, gems, collosseum. Putting a "/" for each DC ie treats I collect. Etc. and i note intermediairy totals whenever i leave the game. I rekon, that is looking very old fashion but ... Effective!

I grow about 600-1000 dragon snaps before collecting all the candies. You just have to keep at it.
As for the habitats, you can get candies from any of the habitats even if you've received some from it before. I have 70 habitats right now and it takes me a couple sweeps before getting all the candies. The last 2 are really difficult--I went through three full sweeps once before getting the candies.
lemmyloop made a really great excel spreadsheet to keep track of your progress.

I use paper too. Have a sheet I can fold in half and use half for each park.
After my first sweep, I use tally marks for the additional picked up on each line and a big checkmark when I've maxed one source out.

I'm old fashioned too. I use a little peace of paper that slips under the ipad case when not used. I find a paper more practical because you don't have to leave DV to note the numbers.

I have not done it for this event. But w/ the Fireflies event, I used yellow sticky notes, drew a grid, tallied, carried the number to the next day...
