I also dislike the name Ortreat. They should have just named it Treat. At least then, when I inevitably don't have enough candies to buy both, I would be choosing between Trick or Treat, not Trick or Ortreat. Bleh.
I was about to come and say that. WHY? OrTreat is such a silly name. For example: im not sure whether to get trick or OrTreat next. Thats just the most stupid sentence on earth.
At least they didn't name them Trickor and Ortreat. That would have just been absurd... I don't know whether to get Trickor or Ortreat

Not a trick so much as just practice. I spent the first week of the Faire playing around with starting positions and spin force, observing my results. Before you've landed on gems you can use their position to observe how many spins you achieve with a particular spin strength (well not so much how many spins as where you end up because it's hard to count actual spins due to the blurring effect they apply to the wheel).
First let me say that I believe BFS has programmed a clean wheel. I know some believe that they weight the results, but in my observations a consistent spin seems to yield a consistent result. On my iPad I couldn't achieve much in the way of consistency because of the 4 or 5 inches of wheel length. But on my iPhone the 2 inch length is more forgiving of slight differences in spin strength. So basically I played around with spin strength until I could consistently land close to the gems as often as possible. In my case I place the wheel on the slot where I want to land, I curl my right hand over the top of the phone (held in landscape) and place my thumb on on the bottom of the wheel. A quick snap of my thumb as if I were actually snapping my fingers yields a very consistent spin strength and usually lands within a slot or two of my starting position. That means that I can usually get the gems within about 5 spins and then I just keep shooting for 40s, landing on them more often than not.

Had dinner at my sister and she had invited a young friend of them who showed us the gadget she just got from her office : an apple watch. Wow, that is certainly something fun but only for young eyes and very sharp finger tips ! I have already difficulties with my I phone when it comes to writing, but on that watch!
Love my Apple Watch! It has reduced the need to take my phone out of my pocket by at least 80%. Games and camera are now the bulk of pocket withdrawals. Now if only Dragonvale ran on it (for the love of God, BFS, please DO NOT make Dragonvale for the watch!)!
I find it quite easy to manage the wheel with graded force of spin and placement of the arrow at the start of each spin; I usually get the 5 gems, and then mostly 40's unless I don't really care and play randomly cos I reach the cap daily too...visit park every couple hours briefly to harvest food and plant more and skim $ from habs, and at nite part hat about 20 parks, and again over my morning coffee after reset... Haven't done the sandstorm grinding yet,but it's a reserve strategy for me
I find this fairly easy to do on my iPhone, but nearly impossible on my iPad. My theory is that the shorter finger throw on the iPhone is less subject to variation in finger flick force (fff). I enjoy the otherwise superior iPad experience enough that I usually don't bother switching devices and just live with the inevitable increased grinding...

Does anyone think it likely that we could get an Elder form of the Lycan dragon as the full moon secret? I think it would be awesome, but they haven't released any other Elder forms for hybrids yet so I guess it's not terribly likely.
Yeah, I'd say that's unlikely. I am curious as to why the Lycan dragon is so expensive, and why it is the most expensive of all the event dragons. It's not an epic dragon (none of them are), its earning rates aren't very high (none of them are), and it doesn't seem any more unique or specific to the Halloween holiday than any of the others. Seems like they implemented an arbitrary sliding scale for the costs of these event dragons, with the only reason being that each successive dragon in the prize pumpkin "should" cost more than the others. I don't know - I hope it does something unique when the moon is full. That would be cool.
I think they are gathering data on customer pain points, trying to find that sweet spot where they can balance maximum customer purchases with an acceptable level of customer rage-quitting.

Ohhhh I want someone to breed trick with treat lol I haven't bought any prize dragons yet or I would. I need nosferatu so I'm waiting until the end to see if I can get him in addition to the prize dragons with any surprises BFS may have up their moon:)
Nosferatu is breedable.
I am saving Trick and OrTreat until last
1) I really dislike the name OrTreat. 2) They have the same elements involved. So there is a chance, during BEB< that I can try for BOTH dragons with the same breeding pair!
I also dislike the name Ortreat. They should have just named it Treat. At least then, when I inevitably don't have enough candies to buy both, I would be choosing between Trick or Treat, not Trick or Ortreat. Bleh.

Also, someone in that Facebook group figured out that there's a sequence to Name That Dragon... apparently the right answers are always in the same locations every cycle.

What is "that Facebook group" I've seen referred to a few times?
Edit: I'm sensing a "They-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named" vibe!
Not necessarily. I depends on where the sun is. All it means is that the sun is off to the left of the moon. Actually, if you look at the moon in its crescent phase regardless of whether it is waxing or waning, it is most often pointing downwards not left or right as the sun is usually below the horizon when you can see the crescent moon. What changes is when you can see the moon. Evening for waxing crescent. Early morning for waning moon (predawn). So that diagram is just as "wrong" as the DV depiction.
Greg, figure no 8 is followed by figure no 1. Which, in fact, was the moon we had until yesterday. This would mean, DV s moon is going backwards, which, in my solar system, is not correct. Where do you live ?
Observers in the southern hemisphere perceive the moon to be illuminated on the opposite side than observers in the northern hemisphere (but the moon is either waxing or waning for all earthly observers at the same time). You might be able to visualize this more readily with a little thought experiment: imagine the earth has no axial tilt and you are standing on the North Pole; now imagine walking around the globe to the South Pole. The horns of the moon will rotate as you travel until they point in the opposite direction. As GregDarcy has noted, we rarely perceive the horns to be pointing directly left or right as shown in that diagram in any case; this is because the earth does have an axial tilt and because we typically observe the moon from non-polar vantage points, so the horns will appear to be rotated according to how perpendicular you are with respect to the plane of the ecliptic.

Wow, really? How long can you continue with this? It would be difficult for my game, which I play on my phone, not to log out in about 1 minute due to non-activity. Hmmm... I don't think I want to stare at my phone and keep moving around in the park constantly to keep the game actively going, but this is very interesting. I guess you still hit the max when you hit it...and perhaps reduce the amount of time you have to collect in the next day as well?
The longest I've kept my park open for doubles is 28 hours, so you can probably do this forever. Of course, you can't really use your device while you're doing this because you risk the app unloading in the background.
And the candy limit also remains doubled while you're doing this, so I'm 1000 ahead of what should be possible right now.
I didn't try it this time for a couple reasons:
1) When I did it during the Faire event "a spell went wonky in my park" and I lost all the tickets for that day and could only get some of them back (through non-diminishing methods and it was late in the day).
2) I use my iPad for other things and can only spare a couple hours for this at most and it's reeeeeally difficult to max out candies this time without visiting friends (which resets your park) or spending gems (which are severely depleted for me since my Omenous adventure).
Ugh. I opened my park just before reset so it would finish loading after. Indeed, when it finally opened, reset had occurred... BUT NOT DOUBLES. Did all my rounds of DC, treats, and the Wheel of Chance on singles. Doubles didn't appear until I visited some friends. UGH, UGH, UGH.
As if it isn't already hard enough to reach the cap now.

I had the same issue with the Update button doing nothing the other day. As noted, the App Store has been having intermittent issues for several days. I just checked the Apple status page here and it indicates the store service may be unavailable for some users. They should have it sorted soon

I reloaded it on the iPad 3, it did load after pausing for 15m to get in. Unfortunately it appears to do that everytime you start the game
I'm seeing a long wait on startup as well on my iPad Air, though mine is only a few minutes, not 15. A few minutes is extremely frustrating for me so I can only imagine how frustrating 15 minutes is. I hope they address this issue soon!
ETA - The behavior is: the progress bar loads normally until about 95% and then just sits there doing nothing for several minutes before the load completes. Blech.
Sure, something to re-clog my nursery with an event looming!
