Literally an abbreviation for "non player character", it is often applied to any background characters in a game, such as the little wizards running around with flags...
It's an old term from pen and paper role playing games that is used heavily in the larger gaming community.
I've been calling them Flagards (Flag Wizards). No giggles, no hohoho, I miss Gardenia!
Henceforth I shall call mine Bannerds (Banner Wizards... I let the "e" in banner overtake the "a" in wizards since I am a long-time nerd).

OK, I was only able to play 3 of my new set of spins before I hit the cap. My last spin got me 80 tickets which put me above 1650 total for the event (650 yesterday and 1000 today). The excess 21 tickets were accumulated into the existing Backflip ticket gift from yesterday's overage, so we won't have to worry about multiple gifts piling up in the Gifts tab, it will apparently just be a growing pot!

I just got 5 more plays in the 'ID the Dragon' game for a total of 10 plays. Might have to exit the game to get more if it's not showing up.
Interesting... I now have 5 more spins on the wheel (or alternatively 5 plays of Name That Dragon which I didn't play this morning)
Edit: Haha! And indeed values are showing as doubled on the actual wheel images! Apparently they just fixed the problem and gave us all another 5 plays!
Edit2: However, they did not double the gem slot on the wheel!
There's an announcement in the News tab, and the store has a "Deal" sticker. According to the announcement all tickets that you "find" or "purchase" are doubled, so that may explain why the wheel doesn't pay double (they're "won", not "found"). Doesn't really explain why "finding" the banner wizards doesn't pay double though!
Edit: So far I've noticed that DC, treats, party hats, and hatching dragons all pay double, but not the wheel or the banner wizards...
You know, this is a nightmare when making a spreadsheet...
It may not be that bad anymore. BS and I both had non-doubling NPCs, but it appears they are starting to double now so maybe it was just an early glitch. I'd be interested to know if anybody is getting doubles on the prize wheel yet (as BS notes, however, they may not double the wheel since it shows the actual amount you will win and they may not have code in place to change the image assets on the wheel... this may be a reason to always play Name that Dragon on double days!)

I was saying that typically during event NPCs do double, so the fact they did not was likely an oversight.
Perhaps they fixed it because I got 50 for mine.
Maybe so... but at least it's not as catastrophic* now as it would have been in previous events since it can be made up to reach the cap in other ways.

Finding the event NPCs usually does double on double weekends.
Also, Name That Dragon doubles, so it seems silly that the Wheel of Chance doesn't... though I guess they might need new graphics for the wheel itself, since it lists the prize amounts...
Probably just an oversight.
Did your NPCs double? I watched closely on my second one when I thought my first one didn't double, and indeed it did not. Localized rather than global glitches perhaps? That would suck!

Neat, it's a double day already. Looks like I was right to hold my gems.
72-hour timer in the market.
Mr. Bones, what do you see that is double?

Ok, THAT I had to go see; I thought maybe you'd gone round the bend, Skitch; too much of the ye ol' fun at the faire. I had never seen that before! Apologies for my brief questioning of your sanity.
Hate to break this to you....but you, both, need to get corrective eye device(s) if you are not wearing ones already, please get new ones
So you're saying you don't see them dancing and carousing when you collect party hats? I certainly agree that corrective eye devices are called for in this situation!

Wait a minute...did dragons always turn transparent when editing paths? I thought they remained solid when doing so. Do I have a horrible memory?
Pretty sure this is new.
Something else I just noticed (not sure if it's new or if I'm just unobservant): when you collect party hats in a friend's park, the dragons in the collected habitat all celebrate

Make sure you get 500 tickets from the above methods. Then, and only then collect tickets from the following methods: Colosseum, Kairos Quests, Friends' gifts, Tent Challenges, Name that dragon (NTD) or the wheel of chance (WOC (not to be confused with world of colour, disney's pyro musical)), The Wishing Well.
I can now confirm that we do not receive banked tickets in the Gifts tab for the Colosseum or Kairos Quests after the daily cap. In addition, if you have reached the daily cap, you are not even allowed to start any of the challenges or games. So it looks like the only way to bank tickets is to 1) start the Challenge Tent before you have hit the max and collect after, and 2) leave your friend gifts uncollected until you've hit the cap.
I have only seen two payouts from the Challenge Tent: 50 tickets and 100 tickets (anybody else had different?), so ticket banking would appear to be limited to these amounts plus 5 each from uncollected friend gifts. And I think it might be too risky to bank too many gifts due to the various issues we've seen in the past.

The only extra tickets gained have been from the tents themselves (kite flying ended after maxed out so now 100 tickets are stored in Gifts), Collecting cash, food, hats etc has stopped accumulating since maxed.
Same here, I maxed out before my kite flying finished so the 100 tickets went into my gifts for when it resets.
So, if this holds, I could delay collecting tickets from those tasks that require starting a long-running process (the challenge, questing, the colosseum, etc.) until after hitting the max each day. This could potentially give me a jump of a couple hundred tickets on each subsequent day...
The other thing that occurred to me is that it seems easy enough to reach the cap that I might just hold off on clearing my obstacles until a future event (until I see whether they will continue this capped approach for the next one).

I have some questions for those of you who have reached the max and had extra tickets stored in the Gifts tab:
1) Can you continue doing ticket-earning tasks? 2) If so, what happens to each extra batch of tickets earned (i.e. do you get yet another gift in the tab)? 3) Can you redeem some tickets for prizes and then immediately pull the gift ones out of the tab (i.e. does the max limit apply to tickets earned or ticket count in the active bank)?
Edit: Question 3 will obviously require somebody to go ahead and spring for one of the dragon figurines!
Not sure if this has already been mentioned (I'm out for dinner with friends and yes I'm sneakily playing DV) - I maxed out at 650 tickets and it won't allow me to collect any more.
Haha! How on earth did you earn 650 tickets while playing sneakily?!? You must have "been in the bathroom" for a half hour!

Looks like around 500 tickets total for all events
Hmm, does this mean 500 total for hatching and party hats combined (and maybe clearing obstacles)? Or 500 total tickets per day (seems too limiting)? Or something else?

I didn't notice this on my main park, but when I tossed a coin into the wishing well in my baby park the popup told me that "36084" visitors have already tossed a coin in! (though I'm not sure if it used the term "visitors")
