I have six small plant habitats back in operation. I have to say that I am VERY disappointed about the no eggs for leveling dragons policy. That does not make sense to me, and since I have been saving resources for such a time as this it is also a real bummer.

Okay, thanks for the heads-up! Anyway, everyone here's going crazy about an exciting new TV series and can't understand what I find so engrossing on an iPad.
Nope, 25 eggs isn't a limit! I accumulated over 80 by growing Sarjin Peppers twice (heh!), THEN took a dragon out of the Colosseum for a gold medal and the counter zoomed up to 99! Then I tapped the "Turn in _ eggs" button (BE CAREFUL ABOUT THIS!) and all 99 disappeared, although I got the Egg of Burcadia.
I started again and tapped the button by accident after 9 eggs, and they disappeared for nothing.
SO: DON'T tap the "TURN IN X EGGS" button till you've made an exact amount of eggs required for a prize. Because it seems to turn in the eggs anyway, and doesn't seem to count them toward the next prize.
Still discovering, anyway. When I find out how else the eggs are hidden I'll be back, promise.
If you turn in excess eggs they start going toward the next item (look under the next item and see that the bar has already started to get filled in toward the number needed for the item.

Dont cast the eggs. Keep them in your basket till you reach the next reward, cast them then.

Absolutely correct. I had several eggs as working on the pedestal and turned them in and watched the bar jump - so we know that works
On a side note, I have wanted another gem island for a long time - hope my extra will go there and I'm betting the reward eggs are gem dragons also....thoughts

Yes, the new habitat is a gem habitat and the new dragons are gem dragons. If you click the vernal glass, then the Help Menu, then the Prize tab, you can see that the habitat is called a gemstone habitat, holds two dragons (3 max gems), and the Ovalith dragons are gemstone dragons with a displayed rate of 2 gems/month.

So, 4000 eggs needed to get all of the prizes. The event is supposed to last a couple of weeks. Let's say two. That's about 285 eggs a day. I don't think that will be very easy. Today we had 50 starter eggs. I got 4 each from my first 5 friends but that was it. 25 possible for gold in the colliseum. I got quite a few for planting dragon snaps. I will probably have to store dragons and giant habitats to get ones that fill up quickly. But total today so far including the free 50 (colliseum not ready) is just 130.
It appears that small habitats does not do it. I have not gotten any more eggs in probably over 15 minutes of collecting from 6 small plant habitats each holding two level 15 dragons all but two of which earn over 100 coins per minute. So it appears that there is no way to grind for this.

I just got splash screen upon entering the game that said the event goes until the 30th so we have ~3 weeks.
So: Coli (gold) - 25 eggs Friends - 20 (4 eggs for first 5 friends) Plants - ? Don't know the cap. (2 eggs per plant... kind of) currently at 36 eggs from plants
I forget how much the habs give you and didn't bother to keep track of if there was a cap or not...

That would be 20 days. 4000/20 = 200 eggs/day to obtain all the rewards

So, if those numbers are correct, you can earn 2675 max eggs (incl free 50), and will have to buy 1325.
In my pricing, 1250 is $25.00. I can't imagine they'd do anything better than a half off sale at some point.

On the bright side, if you give up on the island, you can get the other rewards including the egg, 2 of the Ovalith gemstone dragons, and the habitat, all without buying anything for only 100 eggs/day, if we really have 20 days for the event.
I like not having to grind bushes.
In addition to half-off sales for eggs, perhaps there will be some double egg weekends like there were with the magic event.

I'll wait to see what the egg rewards are for clearing obstacles before I decide whether to work toward summoning that $1 Billion island and trying to clear it during the event. I was converting my money into treats, which I've stocked up, but which don't see to do much when it comes to acquiring eggs.

I was hoarding cash and had close to 2 billion in one park (and just reached level 45) so I went ahead and bought the 10th island. I will probably use gems to speed it up after 24 hours or so. I'm nowhere near an island in my other park so that won't be am option over there. I don't know if I am prepared to spend $25 (x2) for the Lost Island no matter how cool it is. I gladly spent a couple of dollars in the magic event but this is a bit more than I can afford. Let's hope for a good special.

Managed to get up to 40 from planting treats. So... assuming the habitats cap at 40 as well...
