That's them, Moominmamma, Moominpappa, Moomintroll & snorkmaiden. (She looks like a moomin, but she's a snork, their colour changes with their mood, Moomins are just white) Tove was Finnish, one of the best selling Finnish writers I believe. Best known for Moomins. She won the Hans Christian Anderson award for children's books (highest recognition available apparently) she has been featured on Finnish currency. Moomins is a bit eccentric, bohemian, perhaps a bit melancholy at times, even philosophical, and just lovely I think. The Jansson family kept right to the Moomins, turning down offers from Disney etc. Erm, there is a Moomin theme park in Finland. One day I will get to visit it! They are lovely stories that I now read to my daughter (2yrs old) ... Erm. I'm stuck now. I could probably go on for ages but it'd be me rambling. Haha.

They look fantastic. I don't them, but that is apparently my loss. Will need to look into them future.
Sorry mike, but I'll be giving Canada's founding date to the Wisp. And sorry Altaluna but I won't be naming one after the launching of Destiny. The launching of the ISS itself would do it, but yes, that's in November. Will have to wait a while to name that one.
Next up is my Winter dragons. Dates in the OP. Ideas wanted. Gems to be given.
I've been reviewing this thread (I like the idea of learning new things) and I can't believe no one remembered Bastille Day (July 14, 1789). And although many things may be associated to that, I'd propose "Marsy" for La Marseillaise, the rallying song and now the French anthem.
A footnote to Saint George: He's also the patron saint of Catalonia, but they celebrate it April 23. That was the date before the Gregorian calendar came into existence. His name over there is "Jordi". (I have a Jordi dragon. One of the Forges. I often resort to the expendient of cross-translating names so as not to repeat).
Otrosí, as the lawyers would say ("another thing"): July 25 - Saint James ("Día de Santiago", a big day for the city of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia and a highlight in the pilgrimage custom). "James" would be the shortest name, or "Diego", but those wondering where Santiago comes from, it's "Sant Iaco" (Sanctus Iacobus, the apostle).
In the Middle Ages, there were three major cross-border Christian pilgrimage sites: Jerusalem, Rome and Santiago. Those who couldn't go to Jerusalem (occupied), or Rome owing to distance, went to Compostela (another lovely etymology, it means "field of stars"). It was kind of a tough job, since pilgrimage was one of the ways criminals could expiate legal sentences and you easily fell in with robbers and killers. (Sometimes these sentences involved a programmed exile -- and some people ended up serving the Pope -- but more often it was commuted capital punishment). Around the turn of the first millennium, people considered the finding of the tomb of Saint James (controversial) an omen, since it happened close to the western point where the earth was considered to end. (I think the Apocalypse is supposed to fall due when the Word reached the ends of the earth, but I'm not sure; it was one interpretation).
There's a town close by called Finisterre ("End of the Earth", the westernmost point) where many pilgrims go afterwards to watch the sea and the sunset. It's the place where the "Santa Compaña" -- the hosts of the dead -- are presumed to embark. That's supposedly a procession of ghosts. You have to avoid them because if they give you a candle, you're next. Still, the view of the Milky Way over the waters is considered the light they make as they cross to heaven, and the spectacle is magnificent.
PS: Whoops, Fletch_smf, having said this, aren't those dates you gave for winter dragons supposed to be January, not July?

Or is there a down under calendar?
I'm assigning dates to the dragons according to the order they were released in the game. Plant was the first dragon, and so is January 1st. Seed was the 212th dragon and gets the 212th day of the year, which is Jul 30th.
And in honour of Seed, let's name my Seasonal dragons.
Seasonal - 14th Mar Spring - 16th Apr Summer - 27th Apr Autumn - 6th May Winter - 7th Jun Sprout - 27th Jun Leaf - 9th Jul Berry - 19th Jull Seed - 30th Jul

May I make another suggestion. Today (March 12th) gold Olympus I think. Should be named in memory of Sir Terry Pratchett. Perhaps, Rincewind. Or ankh morpork!? I don't know. But I'm genuinely gutted reading the news of his passing today, and after popping on here I remembered your naming thing going on.

^ But I think it should be Errol. After the only named dragon in the oeuvre. And perhaps Bone for the most famous of his characters. (After Granny that is!)

Doing that now using my arcturian. Thanks for the advice!
Hi, Fletch_smf, I was curious in which order you would queue the Galaxy Dragons. I see that you have ordered them alphabetically. I was thinking about it and will order my eggs due to the element the Galaxies give in the breeding. But the way you have ordered them, my Birthday Dragon will be the Arcturian, and that is the dragon I was first given with the update

Interesting. So lowest elements first or highest elements last?
