Whining didn't work for me. Clearly I'm missing a variable. I am starting a research program to identify the necessary conditions to guarantee successful breeding of a Mirror dragon. To this end, those of you who have bred a Mirror, please provide some detail about your situation when you got your dragon.
Think of this as a murder mystery, any random detail may turn out to be the important clue. For example:
What did you have for breakfast the day you bred your first Mirror?
Did you last break a real-world mirror more than 7 years ago, or less?
Were any sacrificial chickens involved?
Are you now, or have you ever been, an employee of Backflip Studios?
Exactly where was your tongue positioned within your mouth when you tapped the breed button?
Are you gem-swapping friends with both GregDarcy AND wapatango?
As collation and processing of the extensive data we will be collecting for this project is paramount, I will need the services of a research assistant to handle the number crunching and to fetch me coffee. If you are interested in a dreary job with long hours and no compensation, please submit your resume for consideration.

Hydrogen is a colorless, odorless gas, which if left alone in large enough quantities, for long enough, will begin to think about itself.
Well, I guess I'll join the whinefest. Nothing else seems to be working.
*ahem*
Whadda I gotta do to get a freakin' mirror dragon?!? I swear I'm gonna tape over my microphone and camera, 'cause I'm convinced the game monitors me and adjusts the odds so it can savor my disappointment!

Gemstone Island question (and I'm sure the answer to this must be somewhere here, but I searched and searched to no avail).
I've long ago upgraded all my gemstone islands and have four Dragons on each, which is the limit, right? But why do the info buttons on all of them include an upgrade option still? And if I spend the 50 gems by clicking on the upgrade, they're just wasted, right? Because I can't actually add more dragons to any of the islands, right? And finally, if yes, why does BFS still tempt us with an upgrade button??!
All of this is because I now have an unneeded opal egg, btw.
Thanks! Gurukarm
There are 5 dragons in each of my gemstone habitats!
Trying to open DV on my ipad I got a popup asking if I want to load my Game Center park or local park. I' didn't know there was a difference and have never been asked this before. I'm a little wary that somehow I will lose progress depending on my choice. Any thoughts?
Your pledge is, indeed, not boring, and part of the reason I joined .
I do worry though, that it will start an arms race of non-boring, complex, hard to understand and even harder to police, pledges for future last-calls.
I'm certainly starting to draft mine
At some point these pledges will become so complex that they will lemmyloop around and become boring once again. I expect that in the next contest we will reach a stage where our pledges will be "a gem proportional to each participant's warp factor at the time of breeding the dragon" and we'll all just have to list the speed at which we're flying.
I pledge that my next pledge shall once again be boring*

I have some uncompensated scutwork for you: now that elehcim and magpac have created pledges contingent upon the boringness of the other pledgers, please update my entry to reflect that my pledge is, in fact, not boring. And you can optionally declare that it's possibly the most exciting and cutting edge pledge currently pledged (I recognize that there may be some subjective elements to such a declaration).
Yours in exciting non-boringness, Skitch

No, wait, the dragon is supposed to have US seeing double...
Drunk Dragon!
No, same problem as cross-eyed dragon...
Schroedinger's Dragon!
Hmmm, no that would be a both dead-and-alive dragon.
Gemini or Twins Dragon!
...but if they're doing a horoscope series different than the birthstone series then wouldn't it be Libra? Though "balance" could have a double aspect...

The iOS vs. DV glitch is the pits! Now I can only gift the first one of any group of friends who give me gems Please bear with me...
No worries! Anybody paying even the slightest attention has to be aware of what's going on. I have the issue on my iPad where I do most of my playing, but I've purposely kept an old iPhone un-upgraded specifically for gem-gifting to avoid the problem. I will continue gifting you every day, just return the favor when you're able.

Ah, but don't forget: gems paid come from a magical tree and won't actually deplete my gem horde!
I think she means that, if you don't send gems to your regular gem buddies, they might not send you gems back.
Hmm, you may be right. But one of my gem buddies is my super-secret B park, whose gem I can use at my discretion (I'm typically very forgiving of myself if I neglect to gift myself). This is the gem I used to pay my Leathery debts.

Strange though, I had a notification announcing him just now as the 1st legendary dragon.
I also received this notification. He must have suffered a glitch in his time-manipulation magicks that momentarily threw our parks back to the time when he was introduced. Thank the gods we didn't stay there!

This pledge certainly is not boring at all. When would you roll the dices? At the beginning of the competition?
Precisely. I shall fix my pledge forever in stone once breeding has begun in earnest. This should also address the excellent point by vonfirmath about the burden my opposite-from-boring pledge would otherwise place on our fine moderators! When the competition is finally underway, all interested parties will know how many gems I'll pay to the winner, how deeply I will pay into the runner-up stack, and which competitors will be the lucky recipients of the random participation gem.
I'm still pondering over what I shall do about the gem penalty to the perpetrator of the "boring" comment since that seems to have a slightly muddled provenance...

A) 1 gem to each competitor still in the running after me B) 1-4 gems to the winner as decided by the roll of 1d4 C) 1 gem to each runner-up to the depth of 1d6 D) 1 gem to 5 random recipients determined by the roll of 1d100 against the final entrant list, re-rolling for rolls that exceed the total E) 1 gem deducted from the total commitment, if any, to whoever came up with the term "boring" provided s/he fesses up!
I'll show you boring! *glares meaningfully and challengingly around the room...*

I need gems for buying island themes. In other words, I'm in!

I'm going to stick with my last pledge since it was easy to track without thinking too hard: 1 gem to anybody still in the competition after I'm out plus an extra gem to the winner.

I updated the dragonvale app. I also bought the new island themes. So neat! I have an IPod that I have not updated to IOS8. I have used my IPod to gift gems because I didn't update it. I am not able to gift gems now on my IPod. Please accept my apologizes my wonderful friends.
Are you saying you have two devices, one iOS 7 and the other iOS 8? You should be able to update your iPod to the new Dragonvale without updating it to the new iOS 8. I have an old iPhone running iOS 7 which I have been using to gift my gem buddies (I play normally on an iPad that has been updated to both iOS 8 and the new Dragonvale). I successfully updated the iPhone to the new Dragonvale and I can now load my new themed islands and still see my friends list in the social menu for gifting.
I still can't see my friends on the iOS 8 iPad where I do the bulk of my playing...

Yes, need to add more.
Think you can plunk down 1,950 gems for the whole Island Theme Package, and post those shots. I would like to see them first before committing? please pleaseee..
I'd be happy to do that!
(Providing everybody starts sending me gems until I have enough )

-Magic portals are now redesigned. (I like) -Kairos perch is also redesigned and floating. (I like) -And we have an animated wizard during the theme tutorial! (I like)
Others:
- The Dragonarium is moved over to the breeding island - Themes are available in the Market under islands for gem purchase - There's a bundle for all themes (currently discounted but more than I have )

My App feed is indicating a new update and the AppStore shows a changed date of Sep 23, but the Update button isn't enabled!
Here's the change log:
New Island Themes feature! - Decorate your park in the most impressive way ever! Cast a spell on an island to transform it with elemental magic! - Custom sounds and animations for each Island Theme.
As always the Wizards have been very busy fixing bugs and optimizing the game.
Edited to add: I hope "busy fixing bugs" means the iOS 8 bug is quashed, but it seems likely they'd mention it explicitly.
